Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it
Robert Downey Jr reacts to son Indio's arrest
Robert Downey Jr. is a honest man. He loved drugs, but he’s willing to admit it. His son Indio, 20, was arrested for cocaine possession in West Hollywood on June 29.
According to TMZ, the young man was a passenger in a car pulled over by police. The cops noticed him smoking something out of a pipe. He was arrested and taken to jail for possession of cocaine.
He was later released on a $10K bail. His dad, Robert famously struggled with drug addiction and ended up in prison.
After his son was arrested, the actor issued a statement. “Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale”, he said.
Indio is Robert’s son with his ex-wife actress/singer Deborah Falconer. The two were married from 1992 until 2004. The actor, 49, has been married to Susan Downey, 39, since 2005. They have a son together.
