It’s ironic, Elizabeth in this misfortune just as you come into your fortune

Just as we did in the past, now that we have the nominations for the 2012 Oscars, each day, we will share a quote of every movie nominated this year.

The first one is from ‘The Descendants’. Alexander Payne’s movie was nominated for Best Picture as well as for Best Achievement in Directing,  Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published and Best Achievement in Editing.
George Clooney plays Matt King, the father of two daughters, the husband of a dying cheating wife (Elizabeth) and a Hawaiian land baron. The movie is about Matt trying to get to know the man his wife was cheating on him with before her boat accident.
The quote we gave you belongs to Matt’s father-in-law (played by Robert Forster) who thinks his daughter was too good for Matt and that she was dying because he didn’t buy her a much proper boat. He’s also referring to Matt’s intention to sell his Hawaiian property which would have brought him a fortune.
