‘The Help’: Change Begins with a Whisper

The Help

This is what Preecher Green played by David Oyelowo said in ‘The Help’. The movie is a 2011 drama film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s novel of the same name.

 The movie tells the story of  Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, a young woman who struglles to become a goor writer during Civil Rights era America in the early 1960s. Skeeter is a journalist who wants to write a controversial book from the point of view of the maids exposing the racism they are faced with as they work for white families.
The movie stars  Emma Stone (as Skeeter), Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer as the two black maids and Jessica Chastain. ‘The Help’ received four Academy Awards nominations including Best Picture and acting nods for Davis, Chastain and Spencer.
The movie is good and it has chances to win, if not for ‘Best Picture’, at least for the Best Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer).
